Data licence and attribution
BuildData republishes open data from Canadian municipalities, provinces and federal agencies. Each record stays under the licence its publisher chose. This page lists those licences, the credit each one asks for, and what you can do with the data.
What you can do
- Use the data inside your business, for any lawful purpose the source licence allows.
- Build it into your own products, reports and client deliverables. Carry the attribution statement for each source you use through to your own users.
- Where a licence sets a condition, such as passing its terms on to your own customers, the notes below say so. Follow it for the records you use.
What needs a written licence
Reselling or redistributing the raw data wholesale, as a dataset or data product of its own, needs a written licence from BuildData. Tell us what you have in mind. Everything else is covered by the Terms of Service.
